  • 3,000-Year-Old Moss

“On the fateful morning of November 9, 1971, John List’s religious fanaticism and dire financial straits reached a tipping point. He decided to go through with the plan to kill his entire family to “save them” from eternal damnation.” [Source]

The most chilling part of this case is that John left his family’s corpses in the entryway of the house, directly beneath the stained-glass window. Before he left, he put on soft church music—like he was staging a crypt. Months later, when a neighbor finally realized something was wrong, they entered a cold, lifeless home filled with nothing but the sound of hymns still playing.

“Yareta (Azorella compacta), also known as “Llareta” in Spanish, is a flowering plant that belongs to the family Apiaceae. It grows in the cold Puna grasslands of the Andes in Peru, Bolivia, northern Chile, and western Argentina at altitudes between 3,200 and 4,500 meters, where the wind blows unceasingly and the cold cracks even granite. To survive the extreme conditions, Yareta grows in packs so dense that its stems can take the weight of a human. The plant keeps close to the ground in order to retain as much heat in as possible. This also helps to resist the powerful high altitude wind, which would tear up the roots of any plant. To prevents moisture loss through evaporation the Yareta has wax covered leaves.” [Source]

Yareta can be hundreds of years old—some individuals are estimated to be over 3,000 years old.

  • “Viscera” Painting Process — New Untitled Series

I’ve been wanting to shift away from dark surrealism and explore more science fiction themes in my art for quite some time. This first painting was primarily experimental, as I was trying to establish the types of environments and aesthetics I want to incorporate into this new series. I’m especially drawn to hyper-realistic colors and imagery—and, as strange as it sounds, one of my inspirations was the default Windows XP background: those rolling green hills.

I might revisit some of these thumbnails for future paintings. I love the way distant skyscrapers look—especially when they share the same colors as the sky and clouds in a landscape. The colors are subtle, but this helps push the skyline farther into the background and creates a sense of depth.

This is the largest painting I’ve completed so far—30″ x 24″—and I plan to go even larger for my next landscape. Working on a bigger canvas made blending much easier, and I really enjoyed the freedom it gave me to explore details and texture.

I also experimented with using rubbing alcohol and witch hazel with acrylic. Rubbing alcohol dries quickly, making for sharper, crisp black lines, while the witch hazel thinned the paint and made it more opaque for easy blending.

I’m really happy with how the painting turned out, but I feel like the right frame will be what truly brings the piece together. I haven’t applied a finish yet—I’m between paychecks, and the wood finish I have on hand is a bit too glossy. I’m aiming for a more matte look. I managed to avoid muddying the greens and blues, but I think a few layers of clear coat will really make them pop.

  • June 2025 Change Log

There is something oddly satisfying about creating and running a website. I used to do freelance web development before I went back to college to finish up my computer science degree. I had a change of heart after graduating and realized that I would rather put my creative energy into my art while working in a more simplistic field, but I’m still fascinated by internet technology and culture. Running a website is one of the ways I stay connected to the tech-savvy side of my mind.

I’ve made a couple of stylistic changes to my store and its related pages primarily for accessibility reasons. Overall, I want my site to have a rudimentary feel to it, but Aethyrmart needs to be as clean and accessible as possible. One more thing to note about the store is that pricing has also gone up to account for local tax rates.

There have been some updates to my portfolio, as well. I decided to rename this page to “Gallery” so I can showcase some of my photography and I combined the pieces in “Lurid” and “Abyss” into Abyss of Hallucinations. I split them up initially because I was self-conscious at my lack of portfolio-worthy artwork, but all of those pieces fall into a specific season of my life as an artist, so it seems appropriate to group them into the same series.

In non-website related news, I’m getting into video content! I’m still pretty nervous about showing my face on camera, but I’m getting there… My goal is to start streaming for 1 hour a week on Kick and YouTube by the end of the summer. I purchased a DJI camera and a strap so I can record myself working from a “first person” perspective. I’ve never streamed before so I’m still working through all the logistics as this is all new territory for me. I may have to settle for only using this format for YouTube videos and having a fixed camera on me while I stream.

Expect to see more video content, plus some progress pictures from my new, currently untitled, series. I’m almost done with the first painting, and I have 3 smaller portraits, plus another large painting in the works.

  • Mass of the Phoenix

The Priest prepares the Perfume, and the Cake of Light.
He puts the flame to the Censer of incense, and makes the Keph-Ala-Kech magical gesture.
He makes the holy Hexagram and the Cross with the magical weapon.
He offers the Cake of Light (which was made yesterday) on the Fire of the Censer.
He puts the Blood of the Cup to his lips.
He recites the secret Word (which is sixfold, and of the Nature of the Universe), and the Song of Ecstasy that is in the Holy Books.
He burns the Cake of Light, and eats the Ashes, saying:
There is no grace: there is no guilt:
This is the Law: DO WHAT THOU WILT!
He strikes his breast and says:
O man! refuse not thy will, but do that thou must do!
He takes the remaining Fire and puts it into the Censer.
He drinks the second draught of Wine.
    He pronounces the benediction:
      So mote it be!
  • Happy Wholesome Woodland Creatures

Just a couple of sketches of some happy, wholesome woodland creatures.

    Old, but gold.

  • Napalm Sunrise

Some doodles I did while watching “Apocalypse Now”.

The song ‘The End’ by The Doors is probably one of my all-time favorites. If my life had a soundtrack, it would likely be somewhere in the middle. I love the slow, deliberate way Jim Morrison plays his guitar; it has a haunting quality, almost like a sitar.

  • The Conjuration of Fire Process

This was my first acrylic painting on canvas after 3 years, even more if you take into account how long its been since I’ve actually completed a painting.

Back in high school, I had an unusually dedicated art teacher who was also an exhibiting artist. He didn’t just teach us how to create gallery-worthy artwork but also how to approach galleries and present ourselves professionally. His art program is the only “formal” education I’ve ever had.

I think I should’ve called the rolling field done earlier—I’m not very happy with the final result

Unfortunately, I delt with a lot of mental health struggles in my early to mid-twenties, so I didn’t create as much art as I had hoped.

This piece was inspired by a mix of Funkadelic songs and the following verse from the Lemegeton, also known as the Ars Goetia—a 17th-century grimoire that catalogs 72 demons said to be summoned and commanded by King Solomon.

I CONJURE thee, O fire, by him who made thee and all other creatures for good in the world, that thou torment, burn, and consume this Spirit N., for everlasting. I condemn thee, thou Spirit N., because thou art disobedient and obeyest not my commandment, nor keepest the precepts of the LORD THY GOD, neither wilt thou obey me nor mine invocations, having thereby called thee forth, 1, who am the servant of the MOST HIGH AND IMPERIAL LORD GOD OF HOSTS, IEHOVAH, I who am dignified and fortified by His celestial power and permission, and yet thou comest not to answer these my propositions here made unto thee. For the which thine averseness and contempt thou art guilty of great disobedience and rebellion, and therefore shall I excommunicate thee, and destroy thy name and seal, the which I have enclosed in this box; and shall burn thee in the immortal fire and bury thee in immortal oblivion; unless thou immediately come and appear visibly and affably, friendly and courteously here unto me before this Circle, in this triangle, in a form comely and fair, and in no wise terrible, hurtful, or frightful to me or any other creature whatsoever upon the face of earth. And thou shalt make rational answers unto my requests, and perform all my desires in all things, that I shall make unto thee.

This piece has already been sold to an anonymous buyer!

  • Kowloon Walled City

I’ve been wanting to incorporate urban and brutalist elements into my paintings, so I’ve been learning how to draw buildings and machinery.

Kowloon Walled City is especially fascinating—the photos I’ve seen look like something straight out of (the original) Ghost in the Shell.

Imagine how claustrophobic it must have felt in those alleyway corridors—probably humid, with the sweet stink of sewage, cooking, and cigarettes hanging in the air. I imagine it would’ve been hard to breathe.

  • De Soto De Sun Process

A couple of years ago, someone asked me to paint over a circular painting of a cat inside a crochet hoop. The final product looked like shit so I decided to paint over it again.

The final piece looks great above the sealed fireplace mantel in my apartment—it really ties the room together. “De Soto De Sun” is available for purchase at AETHYRMART, if you’re interested.

I promise it won’t creep you out when you walk past it in the dark.

  • Branches of Leaves

I once saw a comment on some image board that said if you removed all the males from furry conventions, they’d just be Beatrix Potter fan meetups…

A very fancy, well accessorized field mouse.

    A mosquito.
    Feild mouse on a mushroom.
An opossum, yawning, seemingly missing its teeth?

Some of us just love critters.
